La GRANGE -- Goldsboro head basketball coach LaTina Bullock instructed her team during a timeout with three minutes left in the third quarter.

Senior Tyona Moses listened.

Moses stood at the top of the key and launched a 3-pointer to give the Cougars a 34-26 lead over North Lenoir toward the end of the third quarter. The senior's shot helped Goldsboro build momentum and claim a 56-39 victory inside Wooten Gym on Friday evening.

It was the Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference opener for both teams.

Moses stole the ball, which led to junior Natiana Barnes assisting freshman Tyanna Morrison on a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.

North Lenoir senior Mikayla Kramer stepped back to the perimeter and threw up a 3 of her own. The Hawks trailed the Cougars, 44-34, with six minutes remaining in regulation.

Moses passed the ball to sophomore Destiny Lucas in transition for a layup.

Hawks sophomore Jamenia Lynch assisted freshman Maggie Thompson with two points. Moses grabbed the ball from North Lenoir with two minutes left in the quarter, and the Hawks had no chance for another run.

Kramer ended the game with 14 points, while Lynch scored 10 points.

Moses recorded 23 points for Goldsboro (7-5 overall). Barnes added nine points, and Morrison scored eight points.
