The crowd thought of one word -- wow.
Goldsboro head basketball coach LaTina Bullock considered a different word -- respect. The Cougars dominated the boards against Rocky Mount Prep during their 76-10 victory inside Norvell T. Lee Gymnasium on Friday evening.
"I started out with man (man-to-man) to wake my team up," she said. "It just seemed like we were going through the motions. Once we were up there, I told them to get in a zone. My thing is, I'm not trying to blow out a team on purpose.
"I do have a team that can score. There's no question about that so we're gonna put points on the board."
Sophomore Destiny Lucas assisted senior Tyona Moses with the first 3-pointer of the night, and the Cougars got off to a 7-0 lead. Senior Khamryn Brown threw the ball to Moses for her next 3-pointer with two minutes left in the first quarter.
Goldsboro led 24-2 after one quarter.
Freshman Tziah Kelly grabbed a rebound and passed to Lucas in transition for an easy layup. Moses assisted Brown with a 3-point jumper, and Moses ran the court in transition for two more points.
Freshman McKayla Roberts assisted Kelly with a 3-point shot. Senior Sterling Jones stole the ball and passed to Moses for two points in transition.
The Cougars' lead climbed to 46-8.
Goldsboro continued to score throughout the second half and got a game- and season-high 33 points from Moses. Lucas had 17 points. Brown and Roberts contributed six and seven points, respectively.
"They (Cougars) came ready to play tonight," Bullock said. "Everybody was running the floor and contributing in fast-break points. And that's what I tell them all the time, 'you've got to learn how to work together, play together and rely on each other.
"Depending on one another is very important'."
Goldsboro (6-3 overall) plays host to county archrival Eastern Wayne next Friday.
