EW's Harper shares 3rd place at 106 pounds in Pierce-Davis Memorial

BETHEL -- Mario Harper shared third-place accolades and Eastern Wayne wound up 15th overall during the team portion of the 24th annual Pierce-Davis Memorial contested at North Pitt High School.
Harper, a returning 106-pounder, scored a technical fall in quarterfinal-round action. He fell in the semifinals, won a consolation-round match and then tied with Rosewood freshman Timothy Decatur-Luker for third place.
The Warriors' Cainen Miller (138 pounds) and Ryshon Rodwell (152) each advanced to the consolation semifinals. Miller is 7-3 on the season, while Rodwell is 8-3.
Colby Miller (113), Johnathan Harris (120), Cameron Martin (132), Ian Gutierrez (170), Dilissus Council (195) and heavyweight Chris Howard combined to win eight individual bouts.
Eastern Wayne continues a season-opening, nine-match road swing Tuesday at Lejuene. The Warriors return back to Wayne County for the annual USAF-Eagle Invitational at Rosewood on Saturday.
Princeton's Michael Daughtry seized two individual victories during the 24th annual Pierce-Davis Memorial wrestling tournament contested at North Pitt High School.
Daughtry bounced back from a quarterfinal-round loss to record consecutive falls over Greene Central's Jared Fields and North Pitt's Evan Smith. His day ended with a 5-1 loss to Tarboro's Quadarrius Hopkins in the consolation semifinals.
Teammates Luke Brush (120), Benjamin Bayles (126), Christian Peedin (195), Skylar Shields (220) and heavyweight Rian Tew each claimed an individual victory.
The Bulldogs travel to Cleveland on Wednesday.
