ROCKY MOUNT -- Returning state qualifier Josh Wallace emerged as the 160-pound champion, and Charles B. Aycock claimed third place overall during the Grant Wilder Wilson Invitational contested at Rocky Mount High School.
The No. 2 seed, Wallace pinned Rocky Mount's Tony Land in 23 seconds. He dumped Farmville Central's Grayson Coffey, 12-2, in the semifinals and knocked off top-seeded Austin Higgs of South Granville in the championship bout.
The Golden Falcons' Hayden Gurley (138), Jaret Paynter (190) and Brandon Washington (220) each finished runner-up in their respective weight classes. Austin Doyle secured third place at 106 pounds with a victory over Southern Wayne's Raekwon Hardy.
"We had seven total (wrestlers) going into the final matches (to wrestle) for either third or first," second-year CBA head coach RJ Allen said. "Not a bad showing for a team that is young and still learning. (We're) very proud of the team and what they accomplished this past weekend."
Aycock is the guest of Southern Nash for a three-team dual on Thursday, and heads to Rosewood for the 20th annual USAF-Eagle Invitational on Saturday.
