Goldsboro's Breck turns in regional-qualifying time in pool

Goldsboro's Anna Breck emerged as the 200-yard freestyle winner and placed third in the 100 butterfly during a 10-team meet contested at B.G. Natatorium inside the Goldsboro Family Y on Tuesday evening.

Breck touched the wall in a regional-qualifying time of 2 minutes, 21.4 seconds in the 200 free. She swam the 100 fly in 1:13.99.

Teammate Anna Prezbindowski ended up two spots behind Breck in the 100 fly with a fifth-place effort of 1:16.9. The two helped the Cougars take fourth in the meet-opening 200 medley relay and seventh in the 200 free relay. Siblings Mattie Rose and Kaylee Lyon competed on both squads.

Mattie Lyon claimed fourth in the 200 free.

Charles B. Aycock's Abby Sauls claimed second inthe 200 individual medley (IM) and 100 breaststroke. The sophomore -- along with Taylor Ellis, Kaitlyn Muraco and Ariel Smith -- finished sixth in the 200 medley relay.

The Golden Falcons' foursome of Brenna Flanagan, Leah Campbell, Samantha Castorena and Anna Williams secured fourth in the 400 free relay.

Rosewood's Sierra Dietz captured fifth place in the 500 free.

On the boys' side, Aycock's Zech Chastain collected top honors in two events -- a regional-qualifying time of 57.08 seconds in the 100 back and a time of 2:06.23 in the 200 IM. Chastain swam on the Golden Falcons' 200 medley relay, which finished fourth overall. Completing the relay were Colton Marley, Ellis Smith and Zach Broome.

The same quartet seized fifth in the 200 free relay.

Rosewood's Kodey Silknitter was third in the 50 free. Teammate Wes Chandler was sixth in the 100 fly. Chandler, Silknitter, Dalton Ira and Noah Blevins led the Eagles to a sixth-place finish in both the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Southern Wayne senior Austin Edgecomb was runner-up in the 200 free and third overall in the 500 free.

Eastern Wayne's Yianho Chin took third in the 100 free. Zach Bernard was seventh in the 100 breaststroke.

The teams return home next Tuesday at the Y.
