* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 65, Eastern Wayne 57 -- Aaron Smith paced the Cougars' attack with 24 points. Da'Quan Pigford pumped in 17 points, while Jarrad Scott added 10. Goldsboro returns to action Friday at Southern Wayne.
* Girls' basketball: Eastern Wayne 27, Goldsboro 23 -- Ruby Cannon emerged as the Cougars' top scorer with 14 points. Goldsboro is the guest of county rival Southern Wayne on Friday.
Middle schools
* Girls'basketball: Dillard 56, Mount Olive 5 -- Dyamond George lead three Tigers in double figures with 14 points. Ania Sands and Zeanya Jones contributed 11 points and five assists apiece. Dillard (1-0 overall) entertains Wayne School of Engineering today.
