Wayne Christian Academy eighth-grader Abi Harrelson stole the ball and passed it to sophomore Kasey Norris. Norris ran the court for a layup to bring her team to within 12 points of county rival Faith Christian Academy on Thursday evening.
But time expired.
The Eagles fell to the Conquerors, 42-28, however the effort and physical play showed in Wayne Christian head coach Roger Longwell's squad.
"We came out and ran with them (Faith) and pressed to get the tempo going," Longwell said. "The first two or four minutes, I believed we were tied so we went into a zone, but we hadn't worked the zone a whole lot."
Wayne Christian freshman Adayah Ginn hit back-to-back 3-pointers, but the Eagles' zone proved to be no match for the Conquerors as they took a first-quarter lead, 11-7.
Faith Christian led 24-11 at halftime and 34-26 after three quarters.
