The match-tying goal, to some, may seem like a blur.

Not to Coe Jordan.

"Oh my gosh," the Charles B. Aycock freshman said.

"I saw Dallen (Edwards) going past the defenders with the ball and luckily he squeezed it in where I could just slide right in front of Patrick (Hall) and make it. It was awesome. It was wonderful."

And it saved the Golden Falcons.

Jordan's mark in the 62nd minute allowed the Golden Falcons to salvage a 2-2 draw against the spirited Chargers during their weather-delayed, non-conference affair Tuesday afternoon.

But it was a different story the first half.

Wayne Country Day (8-1-1 overall) controlled the tempo and consistently disrupted Aycock's attempts to create out of its offensive system. The Chargers intercepted passes in open spaces and forced the Golden Falcons to back pedal on defense.

The Chargers struck in the sixth minute.

Luis Lopez stretched Aycock's defense toward the right side and Jacob Magera found some open space just outside the 18-yard box. Lopez crossed the ball to his teammate and Magera punched it in for the 1-0 lead.

A mere 15 minutes later, WCDS gained a two-goal advantage.

Tony Townsend capitalized on a defensive misclear that drew Golden Falcons keeper Skylar Landers too far off of his line. Townsend tucked the ball away in a wide-open net.

"They had two really good goals tonight," CBA head coach Byron Adkins said. "Tony stretched us and Ben (Cohen) stretched us. They have two good forwards, a midfield and their defense holds well for them, so we were fortunate."

Lightning from a passing thunderstorm delayed play 11 minutes into the second half. The 30-minute stoppage helped the Golden Falcons (5-1-1) regroup.

The Chargers hoped to overcome a sluggish start after the break.

"When we went into the break, He (Coach Adkins) just gave us a pep talk saying we had to play our game," Jordan said. "We can't let them get past us. We calmed down, we just possessed it."

Aycock dominated play the final 28-plus minutes and WCDS seemed to wear down from the physical play. The teams were whistled for 31 total fouls and three yellow cards were issued.

Edwards pulled the Golden Falcons to within 2-1 in the 59th minute. The senior appeared to be offside since he had a one-on-one against Hall, but the assistant referee on the far side never raised the flag.

The call upset the WCDS coaching staff.

And deflated the Chargers.

"We kind of dropped our heads a little bit," WCDS midfielder Noah Adkins said. "That's one thing we shouldn't have done. We should have continued to play the way we came out in the first half and we just couldn't execute our gameplan.

"They were all over us. We expected that. In the end, they were a little bit stronger than us."

And lucky.
