Southern Wayne quarterback Aryc Chrisman was released from Wayne Memorial Hospital late Friday after taking a hard hit during play against Goldsboro.

"He has all movement and feeling back," SW head coach David Lee said in a text message to the News-Argus on Saturday afternoon. "(Aryc) has a sore neck and has a follow-up (doctor's) appointment on Tuesday. Thanks for asking!"

Midway through the second period, Chrisman rolled out and completed a pass to Manny Walker near the Cougars' sideline.

Moments after he released the throw, Chrisman suffered a hard, bone-jarring hit from behind that left him motionless. He never lost consciousness, but did experience a numbness in his upper and lower body for a short period of time, according Lee.

Trainers from Southern Wayne and Goldsboro attended to Chrisman until Wayne County EMS arrived. Emergency personnel placed a neck brace on Chrisman, rolled him onto the backboard and lifted him onto the stretcher. As they loaded Chrisman into the ambulance, he raised his right hand in the air to signal he was OK.

Chrisman was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital. X-rays revealed no significant injuries, but he did complain of neck pain. Chrisman told Lee he did not have a concussion.

"I didn't see it (the hit) because when he threw the ball, I was watching Manny (Walker) catch the ball," Lee said. "He must have gotten hit pretty good."

Walker and sophomore Jack Casbarro shared the quarterback duties for the remainder of the game.
