* Boys' soccer: Wayne Country Day 6, Neuse Christian 0 -- Marquise Newell supplied two goals and two assists on the Chargers' home pitch Thursday afternoon. Frank Best contributed two goals. David Gurley delivered one goal. Nehyamia Shaw provided one goal and one assist. WCDS (3-0-0 overall) travels to Rocky Mount Academy on Sept. 1.
* Volleyball: Rosewood d. Goldsboro 14-25, 25-16, 28-26 -- Chelsea Boyd dished out a team-best three assists, while Toree Marak provided two assists, one kill and one dig. Braylee Butts, Jala Holloman, Maddie Honn, Lana Nuwara and Alana Atwell also contributed to the Eagles' come-from-behind win. Rosewood (2-3 overall) entertains C.B. Aycock on Monday.
* Volleyball: Gators split with Saints -- Spring Creek won the first meeting on Tuesday in three sets (25-18, 15-25, 25-21). The Saints took the rematch Wednesday (25-19, 25-17). Statistics were not available.
* Volleyball: North Pitt d. North Lenoir 25-14, 25-14 -- Statistics were not available.
* Volleyball: South Johnston d. Princeton 25-17, 25-23 -- The Bulldogs dropped to 2-2 with the road loss.
