JACKSONVILLE -- Spring Creek is off to a 2-0 start for the first time in its 14-year history after a 21-10, non-conference triumph over Lejeune on Friday evening.

"I told the kids congratulations after the game last night," SC head coach Aaron Sanders said. "To be the first team to do that in 14 years, that's pretty special."

Lejeune squandered a 10-point, first-half lead.

The Gators took control with a 21-point effort in the third quarter. Jessie Casper erased the goose egg with a 19-yard scoring run just 30 seconds into the period.

Casper threw a 10-yard touchdown strike to sophomore wide receiver Jameron Dawson, who finished with 118 yards on six catches. One minute later, Malik Sutton rambled in from the 5 which gave Spring Creek its 11-point advantage.

Sutton emerged as the defensive leader with 11 tackles. Najee Young logged nine stops and forced a fumble. Nick Strickland contributed six tackles and picked off a Devilpups pass.

Scott Edmondson, Xavion Garcia, Spencer Jameson and Cole Jacobs provided four tackles apiece.

Spring Creek continues its season-opening road swing next Friday at East Carteret. The Gators play six of their first seven games away from "The Swamp."
