CBA netters win ECC 3A-4A tennis opener

PIKEVILLE -- C.B. Aycock began defense of its Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A regular-season championship with an 8-1 decision over county rival Southern Wayne on Thursday afternoon.
Cassidy Coerver, Casey Belom, Sabrina Johnson, Meredith Jones and Grayson Lane each posted a straight-set singles win. Belom, Johnson, Jones and Lane each shut out their respective opponent.
Coerver lost just two games.
Kassidy Pitchford-Coerver, Belom-Johnson and Jones-Haley Creech swept the doubles.
The Saints prevailed at No. 1 singles.
Charles B. Aycock improved to 3-2 overall.
