Gators' Rouse throws 2-hitter in mercy-rule win

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Will Rouse threw a two-hitter as Spring Creek easily handled Hobbton in mercy-rule fashion, 10-0, during their N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoff game Wednesday evening.
Smith did not walk a batter, nor did the Gator defense commit an error.
Chad Spurgeon doubled with three RBI. Smith supplied a double and two RBI. Allen Coor contributed a hit, two RBI and swiped a game-high three stolen bases.
Logan Miller's two-RBI single ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Spring Creek, the Carolina Conference champion, won an opening-round playoff game for the seventh consecutive year.
The Gators will host South Creek in the second round.
