UMO athletes earn all-Conference Carolinas accolades

HIGH POINT -- University of Mount Olive student-athletes received all-Conference Carolinas in spring sports:
BASEBALL
Coach of the Year: Carl Lancaster (fourth straight award and 12th overall in his career).
Pitcher of the Year: Gunnar Kines. Before the conference tournament, the returning starter posted a 7-2 record and 3.61 ERA on the bump. He recorded 101 strikeouts.
Player of the Year: Jason Morozowski batted a crisp .417 with 18 doubles, 16 home runs and 14 stolen bases.
All-Conference: First team -- Joe Koehler (first base), Zak Orrison (second base), Justin Manning (third base), Kilgore Gailmard (OF), Jason Morozowski (OF), Gunnar Kines (P) and Derek Justice (P). Second team -- Brett Lang (catcher), Kodi Whitley (P) and Rob Shipman (utility).
Kines and Morozowski are among the 32 semifinalists for the 2015 Division 2 Baseball News Tino Martinez Award and Brett Tomko Award.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
All-Conference: Second-team -- Andrew Sydow (middle hitter) and Tyler Yanez (setter). Third team -- Josh, Donahue (libebo), Bret Rutledge (opposite).
MEN'S GOLF
Frehman of the Year: Nick Adams -- The Rosewood alum boasted a scoring average of 73.78 strokes per 18 holes. He recorded six top-10 finishes in nine tournaments and his 18-hole low score was a 69 at the Lander Bearcat Invitational. All-Conference: Second team -- Nick Adams and Jesus Valderrama. Third team -- Sebastian Andersen.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
All-Conference: First team -- Francesca Ceppi. Third-team -- Roxanne Chouinard and Alejandra Hernandez.
MEN'S TENNIS
Player of the Year: Matt Finnerty is ranked No. 38 in the ITA Division II men's singles rankings. He logged an 18-0 worksheet during conference play and won all of his singles matches in straight sets against Division II opposition.
Coach of the Year: UMO alum Kevin Coghill repeated as the league's top coach and has guided the program to 24 consecutive victories in CC regular-season and tournament play.
All-Conference: First team -- Matt Finnerty and Edgar Bub. Second-team -- Henric Falkenburg. Third team -- Martim Sousa and Lautaro Vazquez.
SOFTBALL
Pitcher of the Year: Madison Johnston recorded 12 consecutive victories during second-half conference play and was 7-0 with five complete games inside the pitcher's circle. She emerged as the league leader in wins and ranked fourth an ERA of 2.47.
All-Conference: First team -- Beth Overman (first base), Kristin Power (second baseball), Tiffany Hawley (designated player) and Lauren McGrath. Second team -- Kelsey Akers (shortstop).
MEN'S LACROSSE
All-Conference: First team -- Matt Shields (attack), Luke Morris (defender), Ross Bowman (goalie). Second team -- Brett Kingston (attack), Jake Duarte (midfield), Alex Tindall (midfield) and Tyler Feniello (specialist).
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
All-Conference: First team -- Claire Wigler (attack), Katie McGovern (midfield) and Kristen McGovern (defense). Second team -- Candace Corkin (midfield), Riann Daziel (attack) and Gina Fader (defense).
