Preps digest: JV, middle schools

JV
* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 8, Rosewood 7 -- Charles B. Aycock prevailed in walk-off fashion against its county rival. Tyler Daniels batted 2-for-2 with three RBI, including a double. Luke Frederick and Carson Smitherman (two RBI) each had two hits. Joey Hampton (RBI), Blake Gipson (RBI), Cody Whaley, Nolan Harrell and Chris Turner supplied one hit apiece. Jordan Gay started on the bump for Aycock and worked 12/3 innings. Whaley tossed one inning. Gipson emerged as the winning pitcher with 41/3 innings of five-strikeout relief.
Middle schools
* Softball: Grantham 11, Wayne School of Engineering 10 -- Mackenzie Bryan struck out 14 and allowed four hits in the circle to get the win for Grantham. Amber Pfennig had four hits for Grantham including a double and a triple. Bryan chipped in four singles. Marcy Taylor had a double and a single for Wayne School of Engineering and she struck out nine batters in a solid performance in the circle. Grantham improved to 8-0 this season.
* Soccer: Greenwood 6, Rosewood 2 -- Aaliyah Mabry had two goals as Greenwood upended Rosewood 6-2 on Thursday. Taniyah Oates, Amina Becirivic, Yuka Akiyama and Alana Kazar each added a goal for Greenwood, who improved to 5-1 and travels to Wayne School of Engineering on Monday.
* Soccer: Norwayne 5, Eastern Wayne 1 -- Morgan Casey and Hannah Spear each tucked away two goals in the Cobras' win over the Warriors. Mackenzie Jones added the fifth goal for 9-0 Norwayne. Lauren Smith and Colleena Zacharzuk each had two assists and Clarissa Estrada added another helper. McKenzie Norris stopped six shots in goal. Norwayne travels to Spring Creek on Monday.
