Cougars' Staton wins three ECC 2A track awards

Da-Vionte Staton emerged as the discus and shot put champion, and was named the male field events athlete-of-the-year during the season-ending Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference track and field championship meet Wednesday afternoon.
Staton threw the discus 107 feet, 9 inches. His shot put mark was 44-1.
The Cougars' foursome of Antonio Futrell, Queyshauwn Bowden, Joseph Baker and Rayvonne Barnes earned first-place finishes in the 400- and 800-meter relays.
Goldsboro's second-place finishers were Baker (200 dash), Jacob Seate (3,200 run), Keyshawn Jenkins (400) and the girls' 400 and 800 relays. Barnes (200), Seate (1,600) and Nichole Mehlhaff (800, 1,600) each placed third in their respective events.
The Cougars were third in the girls' and boys' 1,600 relays.
