GREENVILLE -- Kirk Morgan provided a ninth-inning, walk-off single as East Carolina dispatched in-state archrival N.C. State, 6-5, at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Down 5-4, the Pirates' Reid Love connected on a lead-off triple to deep right center field -- his second extra-base hit of the night. Eric Tyler walked to put runners on the corners and Lowery reached on an error, which plated Love for the game-tying run.
Morgan drove home Tyler with his game-deciding single down the right-field line. Morgan ended the night 2-for-4. The Pirates had eight hits as a team.
Evan Voliva earned the mound decision with two-third innings of relief. Starter Jacob Wolfe tied his career high with six strikeouts. Jimmy Boyd, Joe Ingle and Nick Durazo each saw time on the bump before Voliva (2-0) helped close the door on the Wolfpack.
East Carolina (25-16 overall) entertains Duke today. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
