Pate throws 1-hitter, but Rebels fall to East Duplin in softball

CALYPSO -- Rylee Pate's masterful performance in the circle was overshadowed as East Duplin scratched across a run in the fifth inning to escape with a 1-0 victory over North Duplin on Thursday.
Kari Westerbeek got the shutout for East Duplin.
Pate struck out 15 batters and surrendered an unearned run on only one hit and no walks.
Pate also had the lone hit for North Duplin.
The Rebels (6-1-1 overall) play Spring Creek on Tuesday.
