MOUNT OLIVE -- Joe Koehler provided two RBI and helped turn two of three double plays during No. 16-ranked University of Mount Olive's 12-2, non-conference victory over Scarborough Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Trojans (30-9 overall) clinched their 10th consecutive 30-win campaign and extended their win streak to 11.
UMO turned a first-inning DP when starting pitcher Hunter Barnett induced a ground ball to Koehler at third. Koehler's throw started a 5-4-3 twin killing. The Trojans recorded double plays in the third and fourth, including a rare fielder's choice DP that started when Koehler touched third base after Chowan (14-18) had loaded the bases in the fourth.
Chowan stranded 13 runners.
The Trojans' defense has 35 double plays this season.
Kilgore Gailmard (two RBI), Justin Manning (RBI), Koehler (two RBI), Brett Lang (RBI) and Bretton Gouthro (two RBI) supplied two hits apiece as UMO swept the two-game series. The Trojans had 15 hits on the day.
Ethan Horne, the second of six pitchers used by UMO, earned his first mound decision. He tossed two innings of three-strikeout relief behind starter Hunter Barnett, who allowed an unearned run on five hits during the first four innings.
Carlos Rodriguez, Mark Harris, Dario Santangelo and Jose Serrano combined for three innings of three-hit, six-strikeout relief.
Weather permitting, Mount Olive begins a critical three-game Conference Carolinas series against North Greenville this weekend. Game one is Friday and the teams will play a twinbill on Saturday.
