La GRANGE -- Ashton McGee swatted a solo home run and Chandler Matthews earned his first-ever varsity decision on the mound during Charles B. Aycock's 8-3, non-conference win over North Lenoir at Alphin Field on Thursday afternoon.

McGee delivered a fifth-inning solo home run -- his lone hit of the day -- and drove in a pair of runs. Lenoir-Rhyne signee Hank Smitherman batted 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Jacob Naughton (three RBI) and Trent Herndon (RBI) provided one hit apiece.

Aycock (8-3 overall) cranked out eight hits on the day and swept the regular-season series from the Hawks, who finished runners-up in the eastern 2-A regionals last season.

"We finally hit the ball," CBA head coach Charles Davis said.

Kyle Davis started on the bump, gave up one hit and retired two Hawks on strikeouts in a two-inning stint. Matthews made his second appearance in the third inning and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits. The sophomore earned the mound win.

Herndon tossed one inning of one-hit, three-strikeout relief. Landon Casey wrapped up the bullpen's effort with no-hit, one-strikeout relief in the seventh.

Luke Jackson and Daron Gray paced the North Lenoir offense with two hits. Jacob Baird, Orlando Cannon and Caleb Beard each delivered one hit.

Jackson started on the mound and surrendered four runs on four hits, one walk and one strikeout in two innings. Gray, Braxton Greene and Garrett Letchworth combined to throw the final five innings. Gray and Greene combined for two strikeouts.

The Golden Falcons, who snapped a three-game skid, return to action Saturday against Jamestown Ragsdale. First pitch is 12:30 p.m. at historic Fleming Stadium in Wilson.

North Lenoir (5-3) takes on J.H. Rose in the Pitt County Classic on Saturday.
