It was the kind of game Rosewood coach Shay Campbell loves.
He just didn't love the result.
North Duplin capitalized on five errors and handed the Eagles a 5-3 loss in Carolina 1-A Conference play Wednesday evening.
"A retired coaching friend of mine from Hofstra University describes it the best, 'If you can't throw and catch, you can't play ball,'" Campbell said. "That was unfortunately what happened to us this evening."
After pushing across a run early, Rosewood kept North Duplin from scoring until the fifth inning. That's when things fell apart and the Eagles gave up all five runs.
A late rally for the Eagles fell short.
Macy Tyndall got the loss on the mound.
Rylee Pate got the win for the Rebels as she kept Eagles hitters off balance all evening. Pate had 14 strikeouts and no walks. Offensively, she provided three hits including a double. Haley Brogden drove in a run and had one hit. Brooke Cottle had two hits for the Rebels.
Rosewood is off until next Friday, when they travel to Winterville for the DH Conley Annual Easter Tournament where they will meet North Pitt and Ayden-Grifton.
The Rebels (4-0-1 overall) improved to 3-0 in conference play.
