Smith's homer helps power Warriors past Nash Central

Zack Smith crushed a fifth-inning, two-run homer and Eastern Wayne handed Nash Central a 7-5, non-conference defeat Thursday afternoon.
Braxton Lewis provided three hits for the Warriors, who are 2-0 overall heading into today's Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference opener at South Central. Lee Daniels added two hits.
Andrew McKeel (RBI), Michael Wiggins, Coy Barnett (RBI) and Carlisle Smith (RBI) each supplied one hit. Tanner Wells also drove in a run.
Junior Collin Nix started on the bump and surrendered three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks. He posted one strikeout and earned a no-decision in his first appearance of the season.
Brandon Johnson claimed the win with four innings of three-hit, two-strikeout relief. Barnett entered the game in the seventh with the bases loaded and logged two strikeouts en route to the save.
