TARBORO -- For the second straight year, a Carolina Conference team bumped Tarboro out of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A playoffs.

This time it was North Duplin.

The Rebels, in their inaugural season, upended the Vikings 3-0. Freshman Simon Arellano, sophomore Juan Garcia and junior Gregorio Hildago-Moreno each tallied a goal. Arellano converted a penalty kick.

Keeper Luis Martinez recorded 13 saves between the pipes.

"Tarboro played tough and kept us out of the goal," Rebels head coach James Foster said. "In the second half, we took more shots on goal, increased our pressure and began finding holes in their defense, creating more scoring opportunities."

North Duplin (6-9-0 overall) visits ninth-seeded Franklin Academy on Saturday. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

One year ago, perennial power Spring Creek ousted the Vikings from the postseason.
