Preps digest: JV, middle schools

* Football: CB Aycock 38, Eastern Wayne 36 -- A Charles B. Aycock field goal in the third quarter made the difference as the Golden Falcons upended Eastern Wayne 38-36 on Thursday.

Zeke Best led the Warriors going 9-for-16 passing for 206 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Juwan Holmes had a 70-yard touchdown reception and rushed for a 33-yard score. Justin Russell had a 65-yard touchdown catch, and Malyk Williams had a 29-yard run that found paydirt.

Jahlin Cooper, who had seven tackles and an assisted tackle, also founr the end zone. CJ Stevens led the defense with 10 total tackles.

Middle schools

* Football: Norwayne 20, Rosewood 0 -- Norwayne quarterback Cade Re completed two passes to Jaylon Robinson (40-yard touchdown) and Josh Gooding (30 yards). Quinn Cabellero and Blake Dilda rushed for one TD apiece. Tyler Parrish emerged as the defensive leader. The Cobras concluded the season 6-2 overall.

* Football: Spring Creek 44, Grantham 0 -- Dominique Morse returned a punt for a touchdown, and rushed for two more TDs in the Gators' regular-season finale. Landon Smothers hooked up with Devontae Mitchell for a touchdown strike. Javon Newsome and Jordan Ammons each rushed for a touchdown. Jensen Barwick and Isaiah Gray posted five tackles apiece on defense. Spring Creek concluded regular-season play 7-1 for the second consecutive year.

* Football: Dillard 42, Mount Olive 0 -- Xzavier Bowden had two touchdowns to lead Dillard to a 42-0 win over Mount Olive on Thursday. Tavian Jackson and Elijah Hinnant each scored a touchdown on runs, while Dennis Coley took a fumble recovery 45 yards for a score, and Raekwan Hart returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. Leonard Winstead and Sileek Warren each had four tackles. Dillard (7-0 overall) claimed the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference championship.
