Cross country

ECC 3-A/4-A

* WINTERVILLE -- Southern Wayne had three runners finish in the top 10 and took home fourth place in an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet at Boyd Lee Park on Wednesday.

Anthony Patrick Womble, Cole Atwood and Brandon Biggins finished within succession of each other with times of 19 minutes, 3 seconds, 19:09 and 19:14, respectively. The Saints finished with 86 points.

Eastern Wayne followed in fifth with 151 points as top finisher Zach Evans crossed the line in 20:10.

Joseph Mooneyham had a sixth place overall finish 18:55 for Charles B. Aycock, which finished in sixth with 153 points. New Bern's Marcellous White was the overall winner in 17:26 and D.H. Conley won the team portion with 51 points.

New Bern followed in second with 54 points followed by South Central at 62. J.H. Rose rounded out the finishers with 184 points.

On the girls' side, Sarah Gregory finished 13th overall for C.B. Aycock with a 24:33. Aycock finished fifth with 151 points.

D.H. Conley took first in team scores with 36 points, followed by South Central (53), New Bern (64) and J.H. Rose at 108.

Eastern Wayne and Southern Wayne rounded out the teams with 160 and 171 points, respectively.

Boys' soccer

North Lenoir 1, Kinston 0

* Daron Gray found Marco Campos in the 12th minute for the only goal of the match as North Lenoir defeated Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference opponent Kinston 1-0 on Wednesday.

Jacob Baird got the shutout for the Hawks making five save in goal.

North Lenoir (8-10-1 overall, 5-1-0 ECC) visits Greene Central on Monday.

Goldsboro 2, South Lenoir 0

* Ruben Quiroz and Jacob Seate each capitalized on unassisted goals and Goldsboro defeated Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference foe South Lenoir 2-0 on Wednesday.

David McAlduff had 13 saves between the pipes.

Goldsboro (4-9 overall, 2-3 ECC) faces Kinston on Monday.

Spring Creek 7, Princeton 3

* Otto Binar scored five goals in the first half to lead Spring Creek past Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Princeton 7-3 on Wednesday.

Noeh Avila scored a goal and Juan Vega and David Ortiz-Alvarez each had two assists.

Byron Lopez Cabrera, Alex Ambriz and Gio Avila each had one assist.

Rosewood 10, Neuse Charter 1

* Seven Rosewood players scored goals during the Eagles' 10-1 mercy-rule rout of Carolina 1-A Conference foe Neuse Charter on Wednesday.

Daniel Aburto, Ethan Chapin and Marquail Almontaser each had two goals and one assist for Rosewood.

Samuel Drew (two assists), Stalen Massengill, Bryce McKeel and Jordan Gurley each had one goal. Jayden Thomas had an assist and Hayden Amodeo added three assists.

Rosewood (9-5-1 overall, 6-4-1 CC) is the guest of Spring Creek on Monday.
