Players from two-time defending regular-season Carolina 1-A Conference champion North Duplin, Spring Creek and Princeton secured berths in singles and doubles play for the 2014 N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A east regional.
Julissa Quintanilla and North Duplin teammate Taylor Dilday each qualified in singles. Quintanilla emerged as the Carolina champ with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Dilday.
In doubles, Spring Creek's tandem of Grace West-Cassie Alphin bounced back from a middle-set loss to defeat Princeton's Makenzie Smale-Jordan Johnson 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the finals. Smale-Johnson become Princeton's first-ever regional qualifiers in the program's first year of competition.
The two-day, multi-team regional begins Oct. 17 at River Birch Tennis Center in Greenville.
