Eastern Wayne's Evans places 5th among 37 runners

Eastern Wayne's Zach Evans placed fifth among 37 individuals during an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet contested at historic Waynesborough Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Evans ran the 5k (3.1-mile) course in 20 minutes, 3 seconds.
Fellow Warriors Kyler Sprague (22:20) and Noah Bernard (22:22) crossed the finish line ninth and 10th, respectively. Julian Carlisle (12th, 22:33) and Jack Clayton (19th, 23:50) completed Eastern Wayne's runner-up team total of 50 points.
South Central, led by first-place winner Reese Farmer, had six runners place among the top eight. The Falcons collected 21 points, while J.H. Rose had 64.
On the girls' side, Eastern Wayne's Kristina Muses (26:57) and Tricia Malcolm (27:20) ended up eighth and ninth, respectively, among 29 competitors. Alyssa Akers came in 18th with a time of 30:16.
Olivia Durfey (25th, 31:14) and Shatoriya Lee (27th, 38:44) rounded out the Warriors' team score of 71. Teammate Emily Ames posted a time of 39:52.
South Central won the meet with 22 points.
