CHAPEL HILL -- Eastern Wayne and Charles B. Aycock are among the 127 schools recognized as ejection free for the 2013-14 academic year, according to the N.C. School Athletic Association.

Each school receives a certificate for its achievement.

"This is a credit to our coaches and players," EW athletics director Jabo Fulghum said. "Promoting sportsmanship is one of our big focus points. This is our second year in a row for this award."

CBA athletics director Charles Davis echoed Fulghum's sentiments.

"(We're) very proud of all of our coaches and student-athletes," Davis said. "This is something we strive to do, from the administration to our community."

The Association follows the guidelines that record unsportsmanlike acts such as fighting, taunting, profanity, obscene gestures or disrespectfully addressing or contacting officials.

"We are proud that 127 schools were ejection free last year," NCHSAA commissioner and Goldsboro native Davis Whitfield said. "But we have to continue to make sportsmanship a priority and not lose focus unti all member schools are ejection free."
