Preps digest: JV, middle schools

JV sports
* Volleyball: North Lenoir 2, Kinston 0 -- Janna Moore had 24 points on serve. Madison Cottle and Courtney Carmon each had two kills for the Hawks. The Hawks improved to 6-4 overall this season.
* Volleyball: Lakewood d. Rosewood 25-19, 25-19 -- Carrie Beckert had nine digs for the Eagles. Kendall Gurley had three assists and Payton Lane chipped in three kills. Rosewood (4-8 overall) dropped to 2-3 in conference play.
* Volleyball: South Lenoir d. Goldsboro 25-5, 25-10 -- It was the Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference opener for both teams.
Middle schools
* Football: Grantham 46, Brogden 22 -- Grantham defeated Brogden 46-22 in each team's season opener on Thursday. David Brewer had three rushing touchdowns for Grantham and Dylan Denning and Micki Gaines each added a score on the ground.
* Football: Spring Creek 46, Greenwood 0 -- Spring Creek trounced Greenwood 46-0 on Thursday. Dominique Morse had a 60-yard touchdown reception and picked off a pass on defense. Javon Newsome scored on a 70-yard touchdown and later added another rushing touchdown. Landon Smothers had a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown and Logan Grace recovered a fumble.
* Soccer: Rosewood 5, Brogden 0 -- Tyler Acord and Geovanni Abril each scored twice for the Eagles en route to a 5-0 triumph over Brogden on Thursday. Logan Mitchell tacked on the final goal for Rosewood. Tyler Jordan, DeShaun Phillips, Hayden Maldonado and Cole Matthews all had assists. The Eagles got a combined shutout in net from Tanner McKeel and Carson Hatem.
* Volleyball: Wayne Christian d. Community Christian 25-23, 25-21 -- Adelyn Worling and Leah Boswell each served an ace for the Eagles. Wayne Christian entertains Neuse Christian on Tuesday.
* Volleyball: Rosewood d. Brogden 27-25, 25-1, 28-26 -- Kaitlyn Kincaid had 11 aces for Rosewood, which entertains Spring Creek on Monday.
* Football: Dillard 26, Norwayne 8 -- Naz'jalle Wooten ran for a score and threw for a score as Dillard dominated Norwayne 26-8 on Thursday. Elijah Hinnant had a rushing touchdown and returned a blocked punt for another touchdown. Raekwon Hart had seven tackles.
* Volleyball: Spring Creek d. Wayne School of Engineering 25-10, 25-14, 25-21 -- Mikayla Price, Madison Sullivan and Emily Dupuy emerged as the offensive leaders for the Gators. Price had one block. It was Spring Creek's season opener, while WSE dropped to 1-1 overall.
