Boys' soccer

Eastern Wayne 9, South Lenoir 4

* Alex Acosta notched a hat trick (three goals) and dished out three assists during Eastern Wayne's 9-4, non-conference thrashing of South Lenoir at Little Big Horn on Friday evening.

Christian Anderson and Victor Kokiko provided two goals apiece. Sam Bigs and Ethan Zadrozny each contributed one goal. Anderson and Biggs each provided one assist.

The Warriors owned a 15-5 edge in shots.

Eastern Wayne (2-2-0 overall) entertains South Central on Tuesday in the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference opener for both teams.

Wilmington Christian 3,

Wayne Country Day 1

* Perennial N.C. Christian Schools Association power Wilmington Christian built a two-goal advantage and handed Wayne Country Day a 3-1, non-conference defeat Friday afternoon.

Tony Townsend scored the Chargers' lone goal on Charlie Roethling's assist.

Wayne Country Day (6-3-1 overall) is the guest of Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Tuesday. The teams played to scoreless draw in their previous meeting.

Girls' tennis

Wayne Country Day 9,

Village Christian 0

* Wayne Country Day emerged victorious in every contested match and handed Village Christian a 9-0, non-conference loss on the Wayne Community College courts.

Taylor Willman, Jennifer Potts, Ally Willman, Eliza Eagles, Taylor Gumbish and Anna Allen each posted a straight-set win. Potts, Gumbish and Allen did not lose a game.

Potts-A. Willman, T. Willman-Eagles and Gumbish-Aimee Barnes completed the sweep in doubles. The trio combined to lose just two games.

The Chargers (7-1 overall) travel to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Tuesday.

Spring Creek 8, Princeton 1

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek triumphed on five singles courts and swept the doubles in a season-opening, 8-1 victory over Princeton, which was playing its first-ever dual-team match in program history.

Grace West, Magen Jones, Cassie Alphin, Stormy Westbrook and McKylia Williams each picked up a singles point for the Gators. West-Jones, Madelyn Coates-Alphin and Westbrook-Williams each won in doubles.

Katie Smale earned the Bulldogs' first-ever point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Gators' Coates at No. 3 singles.
