Three Cougars advance to 2A state track meet

ELIZABETH CITY -- Goldsboro is sending a trio of competitors to the season-ending N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A track and field state championship meet.
Nichole Mehlhaff qualified in the 1,600-meter run with a fourth-place time of 6 minutes, 4.33 seconds. She posted a sixth-place finish in 800, crossing the line in 2:46.71.
On the boys' side, the Cougars' Rasheid Malette qualified in the 300 hurdles with a fourth-place effort of 40.9 seconds. Christian Martens took third in the 400 dash in 50.43.
Nickie Tyler ended up 12th in the shot put with a toss of 29 feet, 9 inches. Jacob Seate captured ninth in the 3,200 run and 10th in the 1,600 run. Da'Vionta Sutton was ninth in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 11.5 inches.
