La GRANGE -- Noah Reese plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and North Lenoir upended Eastern Wayne, 3-1, at Alphin Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top half of the sixth on Brandon Johnson's RBI double.
Seth Beard drew a lead-off walk to start the Hawks' sixth. Beard moved into scoring position on Luke Jackson's sacrifice bunt and trotted home when Landon Letchworth singled down the first-base line.
Letchworth stole second and scored on Reese's single up the middle. Reese took second on the throw home and tallied the Hawks' third run on Brandon Moore's two-strike single to left field.
Tyler Smith limited the Warriors to one hit and logged three strikeouts in five innings of work. Drew Burke earned the win with two innings of two-hit, one-strikeout relief.
Eastern Wayne's Tyler Warren surrendered an earned run on two hits and fanned four North Lenoir batters in a five-inning stint. Coy Barnett provided one inning of three-hit, two-relief and endured the mound loss.
"Tyler pitched extremely well for us in his first start," EW head coach Jabo Fulghum said. "He kept the ball down and we played pretty good defense behind him."
Barnett also doubled at the plate.
North Lenoir (3-1 overall) is the guest of Rosewood today. Eastern Wayne (2-3) visits New Bern on Friday.
