Eagles claim conference duals
* Rosewood dominated the competition on Saturday on its way to winning the Carolina 1-A/4-Rivers conference duals.
The Eagles clinched the conference's automatic berth in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A dual-team playoffs.
Rosewood defeated rival Princeton 71-9 and also earned victories over Manteo (72-12), Tarboro (72-12) and Neuse Charter (82-0).
The Eagles' 132-pounder Samuel Drew earned the 100th victory of his career during the final match of the day against the Bulldogs. Drew won both of his matches during the duals.
Rosewood's Ticoree Owens picked up three wins. Jordan Batson earned wins against Princeton, Manteo and Tarboro. The Eagles' Joseph Waters record a win against the Bulldogs at 145 pounds. Kaleb Smith and Josh Drew each collected three victories.
Rosewood's Garner Beasley was a winner in each of his four matches at 195 pounds. Rayquon Jones contributed two wins at 220 pounds. Kaleb Taylor (285 pounds) earned three wins.
Dylan Melgar, Kennedy Behrend, Malique Boyd, Nick Martin and Jayden Thomas all contributed a pair of wins for the Eagles and Andrew Magliochetti captured all four of his matches at 120 pounds. Quan Joyner, Adam Henn, Tyree Owens, Shawn McCullen, Cameron Helt, Alex Godwin, Micah Woodard, and Evan Reiss all added a win.
Micahel Daughtry and Dillon Pace both recorded wins for Princeton against Rosewood.
Boys' basketball
Burlington School 72, Wayne Country Day 68
* Burlington School defeated Wayne Country Day 72-68 in the finals of the Charger New Year Invitational.
Lee Atkinson led the Chargers with 20 points and Marlon Coley added 15. Both Atkinson and Coley made the All-tournament team.
Wayne Country Day defeated Parrott Academy in the opening round of the tournament on Friday. Atkinson led the Chargers with 27 points and Joel Davis added 13 points.
Wayne Country Day (14-6) visits Freedom Christian on Tuesday.
