SEVEN SPRINGS -- Princeton used a big first quarter to put Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek in a hole during its 53-38 victory Tuesday evening.

Led by Charley Cox and a fast-paced pressure defense, the Bulldogs turned turnovers into points in the first period and built a 16-2 lead after the first eight minutes.

Princeton padded its lead to 32-13 by halftime.

A pair of quick 3-pointers from Amber Buchan early in the third quarter got the Gators back into contention, but they could never close the gap.

Buchan paced the Spring Creek offense with 13 points.

Cox led Princeton with 24 points. Savanna Massengill added 23 points and 11 rebounds.

"Charley played her best game of the season," Princeton head coach Marty Gurganus said. "Savanna was a little under the weather, battling the flu, but she was also very good. The two of them provided us with a real spark."

Princeton (6-7 overall, 3-1 Carolina) plays host to North Duplin on Friday, while Spring Creek (3-8, 2-2) is the guest of league leader Rosewood.
