Girls' basketball

Rosewood 45,

C.B. Aycock 34

* Rosewood found a way to grind out a 45-34 win over Charles B. Aycock on Friday evening.

Both teams struggled offensively in the second half, but it was the Eagles who hustled after loose balls and did enough defensively to prevail.

Rosewood's Lexi Mercer led all scorers with 17 points. Deziree Baker scored 12 points and Alicia Burns added seven.

"We struggled from the field but it was all their defense," Eagles' first-year head coach Rick Grantham said. "They were on us all night. They were very physical. We have a hard time duplicating that in our practices."

Taylor Daniels scored 14 points for the Golden Falcons. Myleah Jones added 13 points.

Rosewood (3-0) travels to North Johnston on Tuesday while Aycock (3-4) visits Goldsboro.

North Johnston 44, Princeton 42

* KENLY -- Princeton came up one basket short in a 44-42 loss to county rival North Johnston on Friday night.

Savanna Massengill paced the Bulldogs with 23 points. Tori Paul added nine points in the defeat.

Princeton (1-3) visits South Johnston on Tuesday.

Dixon 45, North Duplin 19

* HOLLY RIDGE -- North Duplin could not hold off a furious Dixon comeback in a 45-19 defeat on Friday night.

The Rebels led early in the second quarter, but struggled to maintain their offensive momentum.

Deja Aycock paced North Duplin with seven points. Haley Thurston added five points.

North Duplin (0-2) entertains Lejeune on Tuesday.

Boys' basketball

Southern Wayne 58, North Lenoir 54

* LaGRANGE -- Southern Wayne earned a hard-fought 58-54 win over former Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir on Friday night.

Jalen Roberts led the Saints with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Tarvis Bradshaw added 14 points and nine boards. Maurice Butler tallied 11 points in the win.

Southern Wayne (4-3) plays host to Smithfield-Selma on Dec. 13.

Princeton 52, North Johnston 42

* KENLY -- Princeton held-off a late comeback attempt by Norht Johnston in a 52-42 victory on Friday night.

Tanner Woodard led the Bulldogs' offense with 14 points. Colby Norris added 13 points and Reggie Perry finished with 12.

Princeton (2-2) is the guest of South Johnston on Tuesday.

Faith Christian 64, Friednship Christian 49

* Faith Christian got its offense on track early and cruised past Friendship Christian 64-49 on Friday night.

Victor Jenkins led the Conquerors with 23 points and six rebounds. Richard Sasser added 15 points.

Faith Christian (5-2) travels to Wilson Christian on Dec. 13.

Dixon 66, North Duplin 54

* HOLLY RIDGE -- Jaylen Mitchell dropped in 18 points and Dixon slipped past North Duplin 66-54 on Friday night.

James Britt led the Rebels with 15 points. Cody Ivey added 11 points in the loss.

North Duplin (1-1) entertains host Lejeune on Tuesday.

JV sports

* Boys basketball: C.B. Aycock 53, Rosewood 38 -- Jaquan Ray led C.B. Aycock with 15 points. Damien Darden added nine points in the win. Jeremy Mercer paced Rosewood with 11 points. C.B. Aycock visits Goldsboro on Tuesday.

* Girls basketball: Princeton 57, North Johnston 24 -- Princeton finished with four players in double-figures in a 57-24 rout of North Johsnton on Friday. Madison Adkins led the Bulldogs with 13 points. Presley Whitley, Amber Johnson and Jordan Benson each added 10 points. Princeton improved to 2-1 overall.
