Darden, Vick combine for three individual wins

Junior sprinter Zach Darden emerged victorious in two events and Goldsboro High teammate Timmy Vick picked up a win during a multi-team meet contested at the Goldsboro Family Y on Tuesday evening.
Darden won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 54.18 seconds and touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.99. One of the county's top distance swimmers, Vick posted a first-place mark of 5:51.25 in the grueling, 20-lap 500 free.
Vick swam the opening leg on the Cougars' 400 free relay, which finished second in 4:14.62. Joining him were Vincent Spagnuolo, Christian Martens and Victor Prezbindowski.
Darden, Vick, Prezbindowski and Martens comprised the 200 medley relay which placed second in 1:57.24. Martens claimed third in the 50 free, while Prezinbowski -- a three-year starter -- wound up fifth in the 100 free.
Former two-time state champion and Charles B. Aycock senior Devin Hall won the 1-meter diving with 206 points. Teammate Colton Marley and Eastern Wayne's Willie Smith shared second place with 130 points apiece.
The Golden Falcons' foursome of Zach Chastain, Hall, Will Walters and Charlie Robertson ended up third in the 200 medley relay. Chastain finished second behind Darden in the 200 free, while Southern Wayne's Austin Edgecomb grabbed third with a regional consideration time.
Chastain placed second in the 100 backstroke.
Eastern Wayne's Ryan Fleming was fourth in the 100 butterfly.
On the girls' side, the Warriors' Tricia Malcolm excelled in the sprint events with a third-place effort in the 100 free and fourth-place performance in the 50 free. Teammate Lilly Boyette was sixth overall in the 100 back.
Rosewood's Ciera Satterfield grabbed fourth in the 200 free, while teammate Rebecca Fitzmaurice was fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
Goldsboro's Matti Lyon took fourth in the 200 individual medley (IM).
