Preps digest: JV, middle school news

JV sports

* Boy's basketball: Southern Wayne 60, Northern Nash 57 -- Cole Atwood scored 20 points for the Saints. T.J. Artis supplied 14 points. Southern Wayne (3-3 overall) visits North Lenoir on Friday.

* Boy's basketball: Wayne Country Day 67, Grace-Sanford 26 -- PJ Hill finished with 13 points for the Chargers. Patrick Hall scored 10 points. Tony Townsend, Corey Carpenter and John Strickland each had nine points. Wayne Country Day (3-1 overall) plays host to Fayetteville Christian on Dec. 10.

* Girls' basketball: Northern Nash 43, Southern Wayne 32 -- Shakina Jones paced the Saints (3-2 overall) with 16 points. Monica Manley scored six points.

* Girls' basketball: South Johnston 49, Princeton 42 -- Jordan Benson scored 16 points for Princeton. Amber Johnson added 10 points.

* Girls' basketball: Grace-Sanford 36, Wayne Country Day 18 -- Lillian Freeman led the Chargers with eight points. Kaitlyn Daniels scored six points.

* Boy's basketball: Wilson Hunt 71, Goldsboro 65 -- Kisheem Faison led the Cougars' offense with 22 points. Ronnie Tookes added 19.

Middle schools

* Boy's basketball: Wayne Christian 43, Lee Christian 34 -- Austin Kornegay led the Eagles with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Will White had 12 points. Wayne Christian (3-3 overall) visits Cape Fear Christian on Dec. 12.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 31, Lee Christian 5 -- The Eagles' Kasey Norris led all scorers with 11 points. Georgia Parnell and Ashley Harrelson contributed six points apiece. Wayne Christian improved to 5-0 overall this season.

* Girls' basketball: Norwayne 43, Dillard 42 -- Jala Holloman led Dillard with 11 points. Hannah Vinson supplied nine points. Cassandra Lassiter and Hannah Carter each had eight points. Arlanda Faulkner scored seven points. Dillard's Deandra Pettiford scored a game-high 20 points and Kayla Boyette had eight. Norwayne (1-0 overall) travels to Mount Olive on Thursday. Dillard fell to 1-1.
