SNOW HILL -- Greene Central scored a pair of late touchdowns and blocked a potential game-winning field goal en route to a 20-19 win over Goldsboro on the Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference football scene on Friday night.
The Rams dynamic duo of quarterback Austin Batchelor and receiver Curtez Braswell connected for a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to put the Rams ahead for the first time late in the game. Goldsboro drove the ball close enough to attempt a field goal but the try was blocked with less than a minute to play.
Nashir Bowden led Goldsboro (4-7 overall, 2-3 ECC) with 176 yards passing. Rasheid Malette gained 155 yards on the ground.
Goldsboro was left out of the N.C. High School Athletic Association state playoffs when the pairings were announced on Saturday evening.
The Cougars had made the playoffs in each of the past six seasons under head coach Eric Reid. Goldsboro failed to win at least seven games in a season for the first time since 2006.
