Saints lose late lead, fall in ECC softball tournament

CLAYTON -- Southern Wayne saw a late lead evaporate in an 8-3 loss to Cleveland in opening-round play of the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tournament Tuesday evening.
The Saints led 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning before the Rams scored six runs on five hits to take the lead for good.
Hope Jones (RBI), Kelsey Hayes (RBI), Hayley Warren, Katie Anderson, Hope Jones and Aubrey Sasser each had a hit for Southern Wayne. Warren endured the loss in the pitcher's circle.
The Saints finished the season 8-13.
