BRISTOL, Va. -- Emelie Andersson fired a 35 over the back nine, matched a career-best 2-over-par 73 and grabbed a one-shot lead after opening-round play of the King College Women's Golf Invitational.

Andersson joined teammates Julie Loennechen and Virginia Lane in the top five for the Trojans, who posted a 321 team score. Tournament host King is 11 shots back heading into today's final round at Bristol Country Club.

Andersson's score matched the second-best 18-hole score in school history, and is one stroke behind Lane, who shot a 72 last week in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Barton's Brittney Zine is just one shot back on the leaderboard, while Loennechen is fourth with a 78. Lane is tied for fifth at 80.

The Trojans' Stefany King (89) and Emy Ohling (90) are also in the top 20 heading into the final 18 holes. King is tied for 15th while Ohling is 18th among the 37-player field. Sarah Baniszewski (96) is 26th.

AIKEN, S.C. -- Mount Olive College freshman Pablo Galarza scored his first collegiate goal and Nick Bernsdorf saved three shots, but the Trojans dropped a 2-1 decision to USC Aiken on Monday evening.

The Trojans (3-7-1 overall) fell behind in the 20th minute when Chinedu Arinze scored on a give-and-go in the box. Teammate Mohamed Fall supplied the assist.

The Pacers (4-3-3) added an insurance goal just before intermission when Chevy Augustine headed in a free kick from Dean Smith.

Six minutes into the second half, the Trojans found the back of the net when Galarza redirected a free kick from Kelly Keaton in to cut the deficit in half.

Mount Olive got no closer, however, as Joshua Poissant and Brandon Jarosz combined for five saves in the Pacers' net. Each team had 13 shots and three corner kicks.

The Trojans travel to Conference Carolinas rival Barton on Wednesday.
