PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's playoff hopes were already slim.

After Wednesday night, the Golden Falcons' dreams of making the postseason are on life support.

Jose Correa and Gorge Munoz each scored in overtime and South Johnston escaped with a 6-4 victory in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play Wednesday night at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Correa scored on a rebound inside the 18-yard box four minutes into the first overtime period. Munoz scored an unassisted goal two minutes later while Aycock failed to record a shot on goal during either extra session.

The Golden Falcons (4-6-3 overall, 3-5-1 ECC) lost for the sixth time in their last 10 games and with only three ECC regular-season games remaining, their playoff chances are fading.

"I thought in overtime we had a good chance being up a man," Aycock assistant coach Byron Adkins said. "This was a big one. Us and North Lenoir are battling for that fourth (playoff) spot and a win or tie tonight would have been monumental. The pressure is at 100 percent right now."

The Golden Falcons dictated the possession early and Juan Pina got Aycock on the scoreboard with a penalty kick in the 18th minute.

A minute later, Munoz scored to tie the game at 1-1.

Tim Naughton collected a rebound inside the 18-yard box and slipped a shot past Trojans' keeper Payton Lee to put the Golden Falcons in front 2-1.

Aycock's lead did not last long as Munoz tied the game in the 25th minute.

"The same guys scores three goals on the same play over and over again, and we talk about stuff and we talk about stuff and we talk about stuff," Adkins said. "You can only talk about stuff and coach for so long before the boys have to step up and take responsibility for what goes on out there on the field."

Naughton found the back of the net off Bailey Lynch's throw in the 50th minute to give the Golden Falcons a 3-2 advantage.

Yovani Herrera fired a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box past Aycock keeper Brandon Merritt to tie the game at 3-3 in the 51st minute.

South Johnston took a 4-3 lead on Mario Monica's penalty kick in the 65th minute. Collin Zacharzuk blasted a free kick from the top of the 18-yard box through the Trojans' defense and into the net create a 4-4 tie in the 67th minute.

South Johnston went a man down in the 77th minute as Dillon Lee was sent off after receiving his second yellow card. The Golden Falcons were unable to capitalize on the man advantage in the remainder of regulation or in overtime.

Aycock plays host to Wilson Beddingfield today.
