GREENVILLE -- Eastern Wayne shook off the rust of a week-long layoff and rolled past Nash Central 8-2 on the second day of the Pitt County Classic on Monday afternoon.

The Warriors got a complete-game performance from starter Zack Mozingo. Pitching on 10 days rest, Mozingo struck out 12 batters and allowed just two hits.

"I was happy with my guys tonight because they came out focused and got things going early," Eastern Wayne head coach Jabo Fulghum said. "We had a big inning in the first inning and that made things a little bit easier for everyone."

The Warriors scored six runs in the bottom of the first.

Hunter Barnett walked and Ryan Faucette reached on an error. Mozingo plated a run with an RBI single and Tyler Huetter reached on a second Bulldog error. Josh Dixon plated a run with a single and Wes Stewart added an RBI sacrifice fly.

Jeremy Lancaster walked and Grayson Wells capped the rally when he reached on an error that allowed two additional runs to score.

The 6-0 advantage would be plenty for Mozingo, who dominated with the exception of a rocky third inning. JT Thomas drew a one-out walk for the Bulldogs and Taylor Jordan walked. A passed ball allowed Thomas to score and Jordan raced home on a Warrior error.

"I think we showed a little rust as a team right there," Fulghum said. "Zack walked a couple and we made an error and gave up a couple of passed balls which gave away two runs without allowing a hit."

The Warriors tacked on two runs in the fifth inning. Huetter doubled and was followed by a RBI double by Dixon. Wells plated Dixon with an RBI single to make the score 8-2.

Eastern Wayne (11-4 overall) played West Carteret today at South Central High School.
