Potter's sacrifice fly lifts Rebels past Topsail

North Duplin 4, Topsail 3

* CLINTON -- Tyler Potter's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning scored Cedric Kornegay and North Duplin hung on for a 4-3 win over Topsail on Tuesday in the first round of the Jimmy Raynor Easter Tournament.

James Britt, Potter and Mitchell Thigpen each contributed a hit and an RBI. Joseph King and James Kornegay both had a hit. Thigpen earned the win on the mound with two innings of scoreless, no-hit relief.

The Rebels (10-2 overall) continue play in the tournament today.

North Lenoir 9, Havelock 5

* WINTERVILLE -- North Lenoir defeated Havelock 9-5 on Tuesday afternoon in the Pitt County Classic at South Central High School.

Mikal Batts paced the Hawks with three hits and two RBI. Addison Harper added two hits. JT Williams (two RBI), Chastin Radford (RBI), Dylan Puchalski (RBI), Ryan Rhodes and Brian Hardy each had a hit.

Caleb Kearney collected the win on the mound and surrendered two earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks in five innings.

North Lenoir (10-5 overall) visits Charles B. Aycock on April 17.

* Baseball: North Lenoir 11, J.H. Rose 4 -- The Hawks claimed the D.H. Conley Easter tournament championship. Noah Reese and Luke Jackson were both named to the all-tournament team.
