MOUNT OLIVE -- Marine Becker, Molly Lentini and Francesca Ceppi all posted straight-set singles wins as Mount Olive defeated Limestone (S.C.) College, 6-3, in a Conference Carolinas women's tennis match at the Walker Tennis Center.
The Trojan women have won 13 of their last 15 matches.
Mount Olive (17-4 overall, 8-2 CC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Lentini teamed with Pietra Viana for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Becker combined with Patricia Guedes to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
The Trojans won the top three singles flights to clinch the team win. Becker won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Lentini posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and Ceppi won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Guedes capped the match with a 6-0, 0-6, 10-7 win at No. 6 singles.
The Trojan men cut a 4-1 deficit down to 4-3, but eventually suffered their first conference loss, 5-4, against Limestone. Each team entered the match unbeaten in league play this season.
East Division leader MOC (13-6, 7-1) trailed 2-0 before Diogo Sender and Brahm Moolman pulled out a 9-8 win at No. 3 doubles. The West Division-leading Saints (12-5, 7-0) posted wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles to move within one win of the team victory.
Edgar Bub rallied from a first-set loss at No. 1 singles for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win and Akio Mariano won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to bring the Trojans back. But Limestone clinched the team win at No. 5 singles. Brahm Moolman came back from one set down for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles to close out the match.
MOC's women conclude regular-season play at home Saturday against North Greenville (S.C.) University, while the men play host to Queens University of Charlotte on Friday.
