Preps digest: Spring Creek softball prevails on road

Spring Creek 17,

Jones Senior 7

* TRENTON -- Sarah Ford and Hailey Jones combined for a five-hitter and five strikeouts inside the pitcher's circle, and Spring Creek pounded out a 17-7, non-conference win over Jones Senior.

Ford and Katlyn Casey each swatted an inside-the-park home run.

Janna Price and Sydney Ocker had two hits apiece. Hailey Jones, Martha Morton and Taiesha Morgan each contributed one hit.

"Every player crossed the plate at some point in the game," first-year SC head coach Lester Boltinhouse said. "This was the best team effort thus far, and I still see this team going nowhere but up from here."

The Gators improved to 3-8 overall.

Girls' soccer

Wayne Country Day 10, East Wake Academy 0

* Eighth-grader Margaux Pope cranked out a hat trick (three goals) and Wayne Country Day handed East Wake Academy a 10-0, non-conference loss.

Karis Hawkins, Sarah Best (two assists) and Margaret Tanner provided two goals apiece. Catherine Ford contributed one goal and one assist. Crawford Tanner supplied an assist.

The Chargers picked up their fourth shutout of the season.

Wayne Country Day (5-4-0 overall) entertains Coastal Christian on April 12.

Baseball

Rosewood 3, Dixon 2

* Kahlil Warren connected on the game-ending, walk-off single and Rosewood slipped past Dixon, 3-2.

Warren finished the game with two hits, while Ian Speight doubled and drove in a run.

Freshman Jordan Gurley emerged the winning pitcher. He allowed two runs on five hits in a complete-game effort.

The Eagles (3-10 overall) return to action Thursday in the 11th annual Deacon Jones Invitational at Princeton.
