FAYETTEVILLE -- The Mount Olive College men's and women's tennis teams each posted a 2-0 record against non-conference opposition this past weekend.
The Trojan men blitzed Chowan University 9-0 on Saturday and dispatched Division III Methodist University, 7-2, on Sunday. The Trojan women also blanked Chowan 9-0 and turned back the Monarchs, 5-4.
Against Chowan, Mount Olive's men dropped only six games in its three doubles wins. Brahm Moolman and Stan Roffe capped the Trojans' shutout with 6-0, 6-0 victories at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
Mount Olive lost 9-7 at No. 1 doubles against Methodist, but the Trojans rebounded with a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles by Moolman-Edgar Bub. Murilo Pelegrino-Diogo Sender followed with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles and the Trojans went on to win five of six singles matches.
The Trojan women took two of three doubles matches against Methodist and led 4-2 after straight-set wins at No. 1 and 2 singles by Marine Becker and Molly Lentini. Patricia Guedes' dramatic 7-6 (7), 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles clinched the overall dual win for the Trojans.
Guedes-Becker combined for one of the doubles victories.
In Mount Olive's win over Chowan, the Trojans posted two doubles victories and won a third by default. Francesca Ceppi won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Samara Paldinho won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles as the Trojans recorded four straight-set wins.
Two singles matches were won by default.
Mount Olive's men travel to Division I Coastal Carolina on Tuesday and open Conference Carolinas play Feb. 18 at Erskine. The Trojan women launch their conference season Friday at Converse (S.C.) College and visit Erskine on Saturday.
