James, Speight take C.B. Aycock athlete-of-year honors

North Carolina football signee Jarrod James and sprinter Kendra Speight earned the male and female athlete-of-the-year awards, respectively, during a ceremony honoring Charles B. Aycock's spring athletes.

Speight was also named the long distance Most Valuable Player in women's track.

Travis Musselman and softball standout Jessica Hare received the male and female sportsmanship awards.

Here are the award winners by sport:

* Men's track: Sprinter MVP -- Austin Snowden; MVP -- Cade Ivey; Most Improved -- Andre South; Iron Foot Award -- Ian Slade; Coach's Award -- Alex Rogers.

* Women's track: Long Distance MVP -- Kendra Speight; Sprinter MVP -- Darian Dobbs; Field Event MVP -- Emily Martin; Coach's Award -- Kayla Sauls.

* Varsity softball: Lady Falcon Award -- Ashley Shingleton, Jessica Hare, Courtney McGowan, Kathleen Doughty.

* Men's golf: MVP -- Dylan Mitchell; Most Improved -- Jordan Salter.

* Varsity girls soccer: Co-Coach's Player-of-the-Year -- Samantha Parrish, Madison Mercer; MVP -- Cheyenne Warrick; Defensive Award -- Jaden Thames.

* JV girls soccer: Offensive Player -- Cheyenne Craft; Defensive Player -- Mariah McHale.

* Men's tennis: Outstanding Singles -- Will Hoff; Most Improved -- Michael Kearney; Most Consistent -- Rex Rose; Most Competitive -- Bradley Wilson.

* Varsity baseball: Falcon Baseball Award -- Tyler Farmer, Travis Musselman, Craig Murdock, Jeff Davis, Mick Walker, Derek Limbaugh, Aaron Champion, Jonathan Taylor.

* JV baseball: Coach's Award -- Rider Gardner, Ryan Grant.

* JV softball: Coach's Award -- Jenna Van Horn, Haley Rose.
