PIKEVILLE -- Freshman Meredith Burroughs slugged a three-run home run that landed 20 yards behind the outfield fence, and Charles B. Aycock dismantled Cleveland, 16-1, on Friday evening.

The Golden Falcons (6-3 overall) seized sole possession of the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference lead at 4-0. The Rams, a first-year team, suffered their initial league loss of the season in four outings and departed 4-6 overall.

Burroughs finished with five RBI in a 3-for-3 outing that included a double. Winning pitcher Brooke Bell batted 4-for-4 with three RBI. Methodist University signee Ashley Shingleton tripled in a 3-for-3, two-RBI performance.

Ivy Hartzell (RBI) and Reagan Herndon provided two hits apiece. Rachel Jordan (RBI), Misty Edwards, Connor Davis and Amber Rose (two RBI) each had one hit.

Bell allowed three hits and logged six strikeouts during four innings of work inside the pitcher's circle. Shingleton tossed one inning of no-hit, scoreless relief.

The Golden Falcons travel to Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.
