MERRY HILL -- Early-inning miscues ignited Lawrence Academy's offense in a 9-5, non-conference triumph over Wayne Country Day on Friday afternoon.

Cody Neal doubled twice, while Tyson Pearson doubled and knocked in a run during his two-hit showing at the plate. Hil Tanner (two RBI) and Cole Davis (RBI) each supplied one hit.

Pearson endured the mound defeat, giving up nine runs (three earned) on seven hits. Davis provided two innings of two-hit, four-strikeout relief.

"We have to do a better job on the defensive end of things when we play a team like Lawrence," said Chargers head coach Michael Taylor.

The Warriors are the three-time defending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A state champions, and have reached the final four each of the past seven seasons.

WCDS (2-2 overall) entertains Trinity-Fayetteville on Monday. First pitch is 4 p.m.
