Baseball

Southern Wayne 18,

Cleveland 0

* CLAYTON -- Four Southern Wayne pitchers combined for a no-hitter in an 18-0 win at Cleveland on Tuesday.

Jeremy Taylor, Will Broadwell, Will Raynor and Jamar Holmes held the Rams without a hit and tallied nine strikeouts.

Taylor Brock led the Saints' offense with three hits, five RBI and a home run. Kevin Wise (three RBI), Ashton Cox (RBI) and Cody Davis each had two hits. Tyler Gainey added a triple and two RBI.

Zach Grantham supplied an RBI.

Southern Wayne (6-1 overall) entertains Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Eastern Wayne 13, J.H. Rose 8

* Eastern Wayne erased a six-run deficit and upended previously-unbeaten J.H. Rose, 13-8, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.

Wes Capps stroked a two-run home run for the Warriors, who improved to 5-1 overall this season. Dante Arthur (RBI), Zach Mozingo (RBI), Greg Simms (2-for-3, 3 RBI), Nolan James (2-for-4, RBI) and Hunter Barnette (two RBI) helped Eastern Wayne's offensive cause.

Mozingo threw 1 1/3 innings to earn the mound win in relief.

"We kept hanging in there and kept it close," said Eastern Wayne head coach Jabo Fulghum. "It was a great ballgame. We got some timely hits at the end and capitalized on some mistakes. I'm proud of the kids for not quitting."

Rose suffered its first loss in five outings this season.

Eastern Wayne entertains Wilson Hunt on Thursday.

C.B. Aycock 6,

South Johnston 2

* FOUR OAKS -- Aaron Champion pitched a complete game and Charles B. Aycock defeated Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe South Johnston 6-2 on Tuesday.

Champion surrendered two unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk to record the win.

Collin DuBose provided three hits, including two doubles and an RBI. Adam Pate (two RBI), Champion (two RBI) and Bryant Stafford all had two hits.

The Golden Falcons (5-2 overall, 3-0 ECC) play host to Rosewood today.

Spring Creek 11,

Southwest Onslow 3

* JACKSONVILLE -- Spring Creek got a much-needed 11-3, non-conference win at Southwest Onslow on Tuesday.

Duane Gurganus collected the win on the mound and allowed two runs in five innings. Corey Howell pitched two innings of no-hit relief.

Howell (three RBI), Chris Nichols (two RBI), Gurganus and Wyatt Janning all had a pair of hits. Ricky Brayboy added a two-run double.

The Gators (2-5 overall) visit Dixon on Saturday.

Greene Central 13, Wilson Beddingfield 1

* SNOW HILL -- Greene Central improved to 2-0 in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play with a 13-1, five-inning win over Beddingfield on Tuesday.

Senior Deric Grant (2-0) pitched a complete game for the Rams and earned the win on the mound. Grant surrendered one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Bryan Cobb and Gunner Tyndall both had thee hits and three RBI.

Wayne Christian 10, Northwood Temple 2

* Chase Darden hit an inside-the-park home run to highlight Wayne Christian's 10-2 victory over Carolina Christian 1-A foe Northwood Temple on Tuesday.

Darden also contributed a double and three RBI. Bryce Norman collected the win on the mound. The Eagles (2-3 overall) play host to Cape Fear Christian on March 22.

Wayne Country Day 7, Ridgecroft 4

* AHOSKIE -- Wayne Country Day pushed across fours in the top of the first inning on its way to a 7-4, non-conference win at Ridgecroft on Tuesday.

Trent Proimos (three RBI), Mason Bland (three RBI), Cody Neal and Tyson Pearson all had two hits. Bryce Creger supplied a hit and an RBI.

Pearson surrendered one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks in four innings to earn the win on the mound. Cole Davis collected the save.

The Chargers (2-1 overall) visit three-time defending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A state champion Lawrence on Friday.

North Lenoir 8, Triton 1

* ERWIN -- Grayson Phillips batted 4-for-4 and slugged a two-run home run as North Lenoir throttled Triton, 8-1, in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference game Tuesday evening.

Phillips drove in five runs for the Hawks, who improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 against ECC opposition this season.

Chastin Radford added two hits.

Caleb Kearney earned the mound with a complete-game effort. He permitted four hits, walked one and struck out six.

North Lenoir visits Greene Central today.

Softball

C.B. Aycock 11, South Johnston 1

* FOUR OAKS -- Charles B. Aycock cruised past Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent South Johnston 11-1 in six innings on Tuesday.

The Golden Falcons erupted for five runs in the first inning and pounded out 11 hits in the ballgame. Brooke Bell supplied three hits, including a triple and a double. Reagan Herndon (four RBI), Rachel Jordan (two RBI) and Ivy Hartzell (RBI) each had two hits. Connor Davis (two RBI) and Jessica Hare (RBI) both added a hit.

Bell (3-2) pitched all six innings and allowed an unearned run on five hits with nine strikeouts and two walks to earn the win.

Aycock (5-2 overall, 3-0 ECC) entertains North Johnston today.

Triton 14, North Lenoir 11

* ERWIN -- Triton won a high-scoring affair, 14-11, over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir on Tuesday.

Kristen Davenport led North Lenoir with five hits and three RBI. Blythe Greene had four hits. Dani Moulton and Liz Deal both contributed three hits and two RBI.

The Hawks (2-3 overall, 0-3 ECC) visit Greene Central today.

Girls' soccer

C.B. Aycock 4, South Johnston 0

* FOUR OAKS -- Cheyenne Warrick scored three goals as Charles B. Aycock defeated South Johnston 4-0 on Tuesday evening.

Warrick got the Golden Falcons on the scoreboard in the fifth minute. Madison Mercer's goal in the 32nd minute increased the lead to 2-0. Warrick scored again a minute later and Aycock led 3-0 at halftime.

Warrick completed her hat trick in the 59th minute.

South Johnston managed three shots on goal.

The Golden Falcons (4-2-0 overall, 3-0-0 ECC) play host to Rosewood today.

Goldsboro 4, Rocky Mount Prep 0

* Holly Pittard scored two goals and Goldsboro knocked off Rocky Mount Prep 4-0 on Tuesday.

Anna Harris and Kaylah James both added goals. Sarah Moore recorded two saves in goal.

The Cougars entertain Corinth-Holders today.

Boys' tennis

Greenfield 5, Wayne Christian 4

* WILSON -- Greenfield won key doubles matches and held off Wayne Christian 5-4 in non-conference play on Tuesday.

The Eagles and Knights split the six singles and matches, and Greenfield won two of three doubles matches to claim the victory.

Wayne Christian's Chris Easom, Daniel Glover and Woody Sasser each contributed singles wins. The team of Easom-Glover was also victorious in doubles.

The Eagles (1-1) visit the Eastern Wayne JV team on Thursday.

Boys' golf

Eagles set school record

* DUDLEY-- Rosewood set a school record with a team score of 312 and won its first Carolina 1-A Conference match of the season at Southern Wayne Country Club on Tuesday.

Spring Creek finished second with a score of 349. Ayden-Grifton tallied a 379 to finish ahead of Princeton (390), North Duplin (412) and Goldsboro (422).

Freshman Blake Weaver led the Eagles with a round of 73. Blake Weaver shot a 77 and Andrew Henn had a round of 79. Tyler Dean fired an 83.

Rosewood returns to action today at Cardinal Golf Course.

Boys' track

Rosewood 95, Princeton 80, North Duplin 9

* Rosewood finished first in 10 events and won a three-team Carolina 1-A Conference meet on Tuesday.

The Eagles compiled a team score of 95. Princeton ended the day with 80 points and North Duplin had nine.

Nick Britt finished first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 36 seconds. Greg Cavenaugh was first in the high jump and Joshua Davis bested the competition on the 800 meters.

T.J. Frost was victorious in the shot put and Jamari McGowan claimed the long jump. Jacquez Raynor prevailed in the 110-meter hurdles and Jyonte Raynor was first in the 400-meter dash.

The Eagles' relay teams won both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays.

Girls' track

Rosewood 78, Princeton 51, North Duplin 22

* Rosewood tallied a team score of 78 to claim a three-team Carolina 1-A Conference meet on Tuesday.

Princeton finished second with a score of 51 and North Duplin was third with 22 points.

The Eagles' Crystal Allen finished first in the long jump, the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the 400 meters. Armani Perry won the triple jump and Zhane Watson prevailed in the high jump.

Cierra Satterfield won the 800 and 1600 meters. Alexis Green finished first in the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles.

Rosewood's 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays were both victorious.

Volleyball

WAVE takes third

* GREENSBORO -- The WAVE Tsunami 14U volleyball team finished third among 14 teams in the Carolina Region regular-season tournament.

Sara Rice, Rachel Uzzell, Morgan Foss, Ashley Thornton, Kaylee Lyon, Regan Modica and Savannah Parker all played well during the weekend.

The Tsunami will conclude regular-season play March 26 in Hendersonville.

JV sports

* Baseball: Eastern Wayne 4, J.H. Rose 3 -- Jeremy Lancaster's two-run home run with two outs in the top of the eighth inning gave the Warriors the lead for good. Tyler Warren earned the win on the mound in relief. Josh Dixon pitched allowed one run in the bottom of the eighth and earned the save.

* Baseball: Southern Wayne 11, Cleveland 3 -- Jacob Sasser led the Saints with three hits. Thomas Kelly had two hits including a home run, Cody Wendorf and Garrett Whitfield both had two hits. Drake Shaw, Aaron Denning and Nathan Barwick all added a hit. Braxton Hood pitched six innings and earned the win on the mound. Southern Wayne (3-2 overall) visits Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Rosewood 8, Eastern Wayne 7 -- Jordan Gurley led Rosewood (5-1 overall, 3-0) with three hits and three RBI. Garner Beasley supplied two hits and an RBI. Cameron Kornegay had three RBI. Jacob DuBose earned the win on the mound.
